The jewel of the Okavango Delta - where land and water create Africa's most diverse wildlife sanctuary
Moremi Game Reserve is considered one of the most beautiful and diverse wildlife reserves in Africa. Covering nearly 5,000 square kilometers in the eastern Okavango Delta, it combines permanent water with dry land, creating a mosaic of habitats that support an incredible variety of wildlife.
Established in 1963 by the visionary Batswana chief's wife, Mrs. Moremi, this reserve was Africa's first wildlife sanctuary created by local people. Today, it stands as a testament to conservation success, protecting one of the continent's most pristine wilderness areas.
The reserve is renowned for its exceptional predator viewing. Lions, leopards, and cheetahs thrive here, while Moremi is particularly famous for its African wild dog population. These endangered predators are regularly spotted, especially around the Khwai and Xakanaxa areas.
Birdlife is spectacular with over 500 species recorded, including rare wattled cranes, Pel's fishing owls, and vibrant bee-eaters. The combination of water and woodland creates perfect conditions for both water birds and raptors, making it a birder's paradise.
