What to Expect

Best Time to Visit

November to March offers the most pleasant weather with temperatures ranging from 20-30°C (68-86°F). Summer months (June-September) can be extremely hot with temperatures exceeding 40°C (104°F), but indoor attractions remain comfortable and hotel rates are lower.

Getting Around

Dubai has an excellent public transport system including the Metro, buses, and trams. Taxis and ride-sharing services are widely available and affordable. The Metro connects major attractions and is the most efficient way to travel. Consider getting a Nol Card for convenient public transport access.

Cultural Considerations

Dubai is a Muslim city with conservative values. Dress modestly in public areas, especially when visiting mosques or traditional neighborhoods. Public displays of affection should be minimal. Alcohol is only available in licensed venues. During Ramadan, eating, drinking, and smoking in public during daylight hours is prohibited.

Currency & Costs

The currency is the UAE Dirham (AED). Credit cards are widely accepted. Dubai can be expensive, but there are options for all budgets. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory - 10-15% is standard in restaurants. Haggling is expected in traditional souks but not in malls or fixed-price stores.

What to Pack

Light, breathable clothing for the heat, but bring a light jacket for heavily air-conditioned indoor spaces. Comfortable walking shoes are essential. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are must-haves. Modest clothing for visiting religious sites. Swimwear for beaches and pools. An adapter for UK-style three-pin plugs.

Safety & Health

Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world with very low crime rates. Tap water is safe to drink but bottled water is widely available. No vaccinations are required. The healthcare system is excellent but expensive - ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance. Emergency number is 999.
